Deputy PM: Coalition’s targeting of water facilities led to deterioration in supplies
SANAA, March 30 (YPA) – Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Development Affairs, Hussein Maqbouli, on Tuesday said the Saudi-led coalition’s targeting of nearly 2,400 water installations over six years has led to “a sharp and serious deterioration in the water supply system.”
In a speech he delivered during an event held by the Ministry of Water and Environment on the occasion of World Water Day, Maqbouli explained that the prevention of oil derivatives entry into Hodeida port by the coalition countries since the beginning of this year led to the scarcity and lack of water in every house in Yemen.
For his part, Deputy Minister of Water and Environment, Hunain Al-Dureib, affirmed that the UNICEF decision to suspend providing oil derivatives to the water sector suddenly is unsafe and has serious emerging repercussions.
Al-Duraib indicated that UNICEF’s reduction of the supplies of oil derivatives in the water facilities coincided with the coalition countries’ preventing of the fuel ships from arriving at the port of Hodeida.
He held the United Nations and UNICEF fully responsible for the repercussions of reducing their fuel supplies to the water sector, which would cause the clean water scarcity in Yemen.
