SANAA, March 27 (YPA) – Britain summoned the Chinese Chargé d’Affairs to London, Yang Xiaoguang, on Friday, to explain that the sanctions imposed by Beijing on a number of Britons were “unjustified and unacceptable.”
According to “Reuters” news agency, the Chinese Chargé d’Affairs was summoned to the British Foreign Office to meet Minister Nigel Adams.
“The minister stated that China has chosen to impose sanctions on individuals and entities seeking to shed light on human rights violations, and that these actions today will not divert attention from those flagrant violations that are taking place in Cheng Yang,” the ministry said in a statement.
On Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that it had imposed sanctions on four entities and nine people in Britain, accused of spreading “lies and misinformation” about the situation in Xinjiang, northwest China.
The ministry explained that those affected by the Chinese sanctions are the Conservative Party’s Human Rights Committee (the party of Prime Minister Boris Johnson), former party leader Ian Duncan Smith, and a number of deputies, including Tom Tugendhat, who heads the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British House of Commons, and members of the House of Lords David Elton and Helen Kennedy.
