Demonstrators in Abyan denounce corruption of Hadi’s government

ABYAN, March 16 (YPA) – Yemen’s southern province of Abyan witnessed on Tuesday a mass demonstration denouncing the corruption of “Hadi’s government” loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and the economic deterioration.

The demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the departure of the government and the province’s governor, Abu Bakr Hussein.

They confirmed, in a statement, that they vowed to continue the escalation until the departure of “the symbols of corruption” in the government.

The protestors condemned the collapse of the illegal local currency against foreign currencies, and the mad rise in food prices, amid the silence of Hadi’s government towards the suffering of the people.

Most southern provinces are witnessing wide protests, most notably “Aden and Hadramout,” due to the collapse of the value of the Yemeni riyal and the deterioration of the economy.

Last Tuesday, the city of Zenjbar, the capital of Abyan province, witnessed an angry demonstration demanding the departure of the governor and accusing him of corruption.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of protesters in the city of Aden stormed Ma’asheeq Palace, the headquarters of Hadi’s government, amid reports that ministers fled via sea boats to the coalition camp in Al-Buriqa area, while several others were trapped at their residences.
