Seven soldiers wounded in Mali

SANAA, March 08 (YPA) – The Malian army announced that a military unit was ambushed on Sunday evening, injuring seven soldiers, in the Bunye area near the central town of Downton.

The soldiers were able to liquidate four members of the armed group that attacked the military unit, the army said in statement.

Mali is plagued by escalating violence in the north and centre, where extremist groups loyal to al-Qaeda and ISIS control large areas of the country.

Takfiri groups occasionally launch attacks on United Nations security forces, peacekeeping forces and civilians in the area, and fuel ethnic conflict between farming communities such as the Dugon and fulani livestock herders.
