Islah Party foils tribal mediation for peace in Marib

MARIB, Feb. 25 (YPA) – The Islah Party loyal to Saudi-led coalition in Marib province had foiled tribal mediation to spare the province the scourge of war and destruction, a tribal source told Yemen Press Agency on Thursday.

The source explained that the tribal mediation presented two proposals to spare the province war and destruction.

The first proposal stipulates stopping the entry of Sanaa forces into the city and handing over the management of the province’s affairs to a tribal council from the people of Marib who were not involved in the war in Yemen, and that all foreign forces and terrorist elements leave the city, and the people of the province will protect their areas.

The second proposal was that Sanaa forces would not enter the city and that the province’s affairs would remain under the current local authority, provided that the province’s resources would be sent to the Sanaa Central Bank, the province’s wealth would be shared equally among all Yemeni provinces, and that all foreign forces and terrorist elements would be withdrawn from the province.

The source confirmed that Sanaa forces committed themselves to stopping military operations during the past hours, and agreed to all the provisions of tribal mediation, but the Islah militia rejected what was stated in the tribal mediation proposals, especially the clause calling for the departure of foreign forces, and refused to deposit the province’s resources to the Sanaa Central Bank.

The Islah militia stipulated the entry of UN forces into the province to settle between the Saudi-led coalition militants and the Sanaa forces, similar to what happened on the western coast, the source added.
