Islah Party refuses to release 75 prisoners to obstacle Amman talks

MARIB, Feb. 06 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed Islah party has put several obstacles to thwart the talks of the UN-sponsored prisoners’ file held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

According to private sources, the exiled Hadi government’s delegation represented by the Islah party refused to release 75 prisoners belonging to tribes of Bani Hushaish, Khawlan and Bani Matar in Sanaa province.

The sources affirmed that Islah obstacles came under the pretext that the prisoners are imprisoned as hostages by several Marib sheikhs.

Among the obstacles of Hadi’s government delegation, is the release of the leader of the Islah party, Mohammad Qahtan and hand him over to a former party leader’s home in Bayda province, in exchange for signing any agreement in the Amman talks.

On the other hand, Abdul Qadir Al-Mortada, the head of the national negotiating delegation participating in the talks of the prisoners’ file in Amman, said on Twitter on Friday that the Islah party’s delegation in talks of the prisoners’ file has insisted on thwarting the negotiations, which the UN is seeking to succeed to alleviate the suffering of the prisoners.

Al-Mortada said: “For two weeks, we have been trying with all efforts to succeed the negotiations to alleviate the suffering of the captive, but unfortunately there is the persistence by the Saudi-led coalition and its tools to fail.”

On Friday, the Sanaa government was able to free nine prisoners of the army and the popular forces, in exchange for paying 500,000 Saudi riyals to the tribal sheikhs in Marib.
