Human rights defenders demonstrate in Brussels to denounce Saudi regime crimes

BRUSSELS, Jan. 05 (YPA) – Human rights defenders demonstrated on Tuesday outside the Saudi embassy in the Belgian capital, Brussels, to denounce the crimes of Saudi regime and demand the release of the prisoners of conscience in its prisons.

The demonstrators raised pictures of prisoners of conscience in the kingdom’s prisons, such as Dr. Salman Al-Awda, Lujain Al-Hathloul, Abdul-Rahman Al-Sadhan, Nasima Al-Sada, Samar Badawi and Mohammed Fahd Al-Qahtani.

The demonstration took place in front of the Kingdom’s embassy at the invitation of the International Federation for Rights and Development (IFRD), with the aim of putting pressure on the Saudi authorities to immediately release prisoners of conscience in the kingdom’s prisons.

During the rule of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (2007-2020), the Saudi Kingdom witnessed the arrest of hundreds of activists and human rights defenders, due to their public positions and their demand for political and social reform and the release of public freedoms.

IFRD called on the Saudi authorities to ensure protection for prisoners of conscience from torture or other ill-treatment.
