Earthquake hits Russian North Kuril Islands

SANAA, Nov. 28 (YPA) – The Unified Geophysical Authority of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced that a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the island of Paramusher, north of the Kuril, in the Russian Far East.
The head of the Seismological Center in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Yelena Semenova, told the media that “an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude was recorded at exactly 5:45 am on Saturday morning local time (21:45 Friday Moscow time).
“The epicenter of the earthquake occurred at the coordinates of 49.8 north latitude, 156.7 east longitude, and 100 kilometers southeast – Paramochir island in the north of Kuril, at a depth of 55 kilometers,” the Center added.
The local branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced, early this month, that an earthquake of 5.0 magnitude occurred off the eastern coast of the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula.
