SANAA, Sept. 2 (YPA) – French President Emmanuel Macron arrived from Lebanon to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad on Wednesday for an official visit lasting several hours to meet with Iraqi officials.
According to the Iraqi News Agency “INA”, the head of the advisory board in the Presidency of the Republic, Ali Al-Shukry, said that “President Macron’s visit will focus on strengthening cooperation between Iraq and France, especially as Paris looks forward to cooperation with Iraq as a fully sovereign country.”
He added, “France will support all official efforts calling for strengthening Iraqi sovereignty and dealing with Iraq as a fully sovereign country.”
Macron’s visit to Iraq comes after his visit to Lebanon, during which he met with President Michel Aoun, other officials and politicians.
At the conclusion of his second visit to Lebanon in less than a month, Macron said during a press conference on Tuesday evening, “I assure you that tomorrow morning I will be in Iraq in order to launch, in cooperation with the United Nations, an initiative to support the sovereignty process” in this country.
