Red Cross sends thousands of volunteers to North Korea to deal with Corona and floods

SANAA, Aug 10 (YPA) – The Red Cross has sent more than 43,000 volunteers to North Korea, including the city of Kaesong, which is under general isolation, to help fight the Corona virus, and provide aid to those affected by the floods.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un declared a state of emergency last month, and imposed a general isolation in the city of Kaesong, near the border with South Korea, after symptoms of the virus appeared on a person who returned to the country from South Korea to which he fled a dissident in 2017, and North Korea has not confirmed the detection No cases of corona infection, but strict quarantine measures have been imposed.

Heavy rains and floods in recent days have also raised concerns about the potential damage to crops and food supplies in the reclusive country.

“The volunteers will provide assistance in all nine regions to avoid the spread of the virus and protect people from floods and landslides,” said Anthony Palmen, spokesman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
