Thousands demonstrate in Lahj to denounce “starvation war”, torture crimes
LAHJ, July 01 (YPA) – Lahj province, controlled by factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in southern Yemen, witnessed on Monday mass demonstrations attended by thousands of citizens protesting deterioration in living conditions and services.
Protesters demanded that the coalition end what they described as the “starvation war” imposed on them.
Participants in the demonstration, which toured the streets of Al-Houta city, held up pictures of those abducted and forcibly disappeared, demanding their immediate release, including head of the local council Sheikh Abdul-Wali Al-Subaihi, who has been held since last November in the pro-coalition factions’ prison in Aden.
Protesters also condemned the crimes of killing under torture in the prisons of the UAE-Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.
Lahj residents participating in the demonstration denounced the lack of services and the delay in paying employees’ salaries, demanding the provision of the necessities for a decent life.
The demonstrators also reiterated their full solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and their resistance and strongly condemned the massacres being perpetrated by the “Zionist enemy” with American and European support amidst Arab and international silence.
