Moscow: US will fail to drive wedge between Russia, China

SANAA, July 25 (YPA) – The Russian authorities confirmed that the United States will fail to drive the wedge between Russia and China, stressing that the relations between the two parties are characterized by a special partnership.
Russia stressed its rejection of the provocative and crude US attempts to influence the distinguished partnership relations between it and Beijing, warning of the consequences of the tension that Washington is creating with Beijing on the global situation.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, in a press release issued on Friday, and quoted by Russia’s website, condemned the invitation of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to form an alliance against China, expressing surprise at the provocative tone of the American minister.

She stressed that Pompeo’s remarks included “rudeness that has become normal with regard to the American foreign political discourse about the People’s Republic of China and its social, economic and political management.”

Zakharova stressed that the tension that Washington creates in its relations with Beijing not only harms the United States and China, but also significantly increases the difficulty of the international situation in general.

Zakharova pointed out that Pompeo’s statements about the possibility of dragging Moscow into the American anti-China campaign are a naive attempt to complicate the Russian-Chinese partnership, stressing that her country’s determination to continue strengthening cooperation with China as one of the most important factors in establishing stability in the world situation.

The US Secretary of State, in a speech on Thursday evening, said that “protecting the freedoms from the Communist Party of China” represents the most valuable task for the world, attacking the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, while calling for the formation of a “coalition of democratic countries” to confront China.

In response to a question about the possibility of Russia joining such an alliance, Pompeo said: “I think this is possible, and it is caused by the nature of relations between Russia and China, and there are issues that we must work with Russia to solve.”
