YPC in Hodeidah warns of humanitarian disaster due to continued detention of oil tankers

HODEIDAH, June 24 (YPA) – The Yemeni Petroleum  Company’s branch in Hodeidah province has renewed its warning of an imminent humanitarian disaster that may happen, if Saudi-led coalition continues to detain oil derivatives vessels.

The YPC denounced the coalition’s abusive practices in the detention of oil derivatives vessels, despite being inspected in Djibouti and obtaining United Nations permits to reach the port of Hodeidah.

According to a statement from the company’ branch, which was handed over  on Tuesday to the UN office in the province, coalition forces  have been continuing  to detain more than 15 ships at sea off the port of Hodeidah loaded with nearly 240,000 tons of gasoline and diesel, and ships loaded with food, since three months ago

The statement stressed that the continuation of the crisis of oil derivatives and their repercussions, has become a weapon for the countries of aggression to increase the suffering of the Yemeni people.

It pointed out that the stock available at the company’s branch facilities of gasoline and diesel has reached a critical stage and is not enough to supply the most important vital and service sectors.

The  statement condemned the shameful silence of the international community, despite the widely recognized scale of the humanitarian disaster caused by the denial of access to oil derivatives and the impact on the sectors associated with the daily livelihood of citizens.

The statement stressed the importance of the international community taking a clear stand against the collective punishment to which the Yemeni people are subjected by the coalition countries.

The YPC blamed the United Nations and  Saudi-led coalition for the repercussions of the complete shutdown of vital sectors as a result of lack of fuel.
