EU urges Washington to review decision to cut ties with WHO
SANAA, May 31 (YPA) – The European Union urged the United States on Saturday to review its decision to cut ties with the World Health Organization(WHO) over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
“In the face of this global threat, now is the time for enhanced cooperation and common solutions. Actions that weaken international results must be avoided,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said in a joint statement.
“In this context, we urge the U.S. to reconsider its announced decision,” they said.
They added: “The European Union continues to support the World Health Organization in this regard, and has already provided additional funding for it.”
It is noteworthy that this comes after US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of all US relations with the World Health Organization because of “its refusal to implement the reforms demanded previously.”
