US sold 1.4 billion dollars in weapons to Kuwait
SANAA, May 29 (YPA) – The US State Department approved $ 1.425 billion in arms sales to Kuwait for components and updates of the Patriot air and missile defense system.
The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a notification to Congress on Thursday that the US State Department approved the sale of 84 interceptor missiles (PAC-3) and MSE systems and related equipment worth $ 800 million, according to “Reuters”.
In addition to the new missile interceptors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the modernization of the Patriot system currently in Kuwait.
Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies are the main suppliers of the Patriot radars, launchers and interceptors.
In the context, the American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal”, on May 7, quoted informed sources that the American authorities are withdrawing “Patriot” defense systems from Saudi Arabia and are considering reducing their military capabilities in the country.
Washington has indicated, through US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, that withdrawing the Patriot batteries is not a way to “put pressure on Saudi Arabia on oil issues”, as observers see it to earn more money and arms deals.
The aggression forces led by the Saudi-led aggression and 17 countries, including Kuwait, have launched aggression against the Yemeni people six years ago, during which thousands of civilians were killed and wounded, most of them women and children, as a result of the raids, as well as destroyed the country’s infrastructure, in addition to a suffocating siege on food, oil and pharmaceutical derivatives.
