15 soldiers killed in separate attacks in eastern Afghanistan

SANAA, May 29 (YPA) – At least 15 Afghan military and border guardsmen were killed and nine others injured in several attacks by militants in Paktia province, eastern Afghanistan.
According to “Sputnik”, a district official of Bataan Eid Muhammad Ahmadzai said: “on Wednesday night, gunmen attacked three military checkpoints and the border guards … The clashes continued until Thursday morning.”

The local residents stated that the militants managed to defeat the government forces in the attack, but Ahmadzai denied this report, noting that several of the attackers were killed or injured.

The Taliban have yet to make any statement about the attack.

Clashes continue between government forces and Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, despite efforts to start the peace process.

It is reported that at the end of February, at a ceremony held in Qatar, the United States and the Taliban signed the first agreement in more than 18 years of war, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan within 14 months and the start of a dialogue between Afghans in March after an exchange deal For prisoners.

The Afghan government and the Taliban had declared a ceasefire during the days of Eid al-Fitr, which ended days ago, after a wave of attacks that drew criticism from the Afghan government, which questioned the movement’s seriousness about the peace process.
