LAHJ, May 17 (YPA) – Military sources on Sunday revealed big tensions between the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia and one of the brigades loyal to Islah Party in Lahj province, southern Yemen.
The sources said that the STC militia leader in Tor al-Baha district Wadah Omar Saeed demanded that the province governor loyal to Islah party Ahmed Turki, commander of the so-called “the 17th Inventory Brigade”, to hand over al-Hattabiya camp located in Khor Omaira area on the coast line, between Tor al-Baha in Lahj and Bab al-Mandab in Taiz province.
The STC militias sent military reinforcements to Tor al-Baha, while Turki brought in armed reinforcements from al-Sabiha tribes to the camp, the sources added.
The conflict between the STC and and the Islah Party tends to direct the greatest threat to international shipping routes, which may widen the conflict at the regional level.
