HADRAMOUT, May 13 (YPA) – About 300 people have fled quarantine in Alabr area of Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, Salman al-Sharif, a Yemeni human rights activist and expatriate activist reported on Tuesday.
Al-Sharif said in a live broadcast on his Facebook page that “300 people, not included in the lists of Hadi’s government, were exited from Al-Wadia’ border crossing accompanied by a protection battalion to be taken to Al-Tariq compound, the supposed quarantine place in Alabr area.”
However, the battalion leadership informed the arrivals that they had to reserve quarantine place at their own expense, al-Sharif added.
He continued: “The people objected to reserving the quarantine place at their expense, and they cut off the road to protest against that from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, demanding the recovery of their passports and their cars cards held by the battalion command.”
The battalion command had no option only to give back passports and cars cards to the people, who immediately left heading to Shabwa, Marib, and Jawf province.
Al-Sharif, who described what happened as “catastrophic” to the Yemeni people, as the 300 people did not undergo any medical tests, wondered why Hadi government did not provide quarantines despite receiving $ 25 million in assistance to prepare quarantine centers equipped with all its requirements for returnees from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He pointed out that there is a quarantine center in the port of Al-Wadia’h includes many stranded Yemenis, who were allowed by the Hadi government to return to Yemen.
