GAZA, Aug. 27 (YPA) – Inger Ashing, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Save the Children International warned on Wednesday that “starvation is being used as a weapon of war against civilians in the Gaza Strip”.
She said in a statement that the situation of children has reached unprecedented levels of tragedy.
The UN official explained that increasing numbers of Gaza’s children are now wishing for death rather than continuing their daily suffering, noting that most of them now only dream of a piece of bread to satisfy their hunger.
Ashing revealed that Israeli authorities have rejected dozens of requests from humanitarian organizations to deliver life-saving aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.
Regarding human rights conditions, the CEO expressed grave concern about the detention of Palestinian children in Israeli military detention facilities, noting that they were being tried before military courts that did not in any way meet international standards.
“The detained children are subjected to severe physical and psychological suffering, including humiliation, starvation, and sexual abuse, in detention conditions the organization described as “shocking and inconsistent with human dignity,” she added.
