2nd commander of STC militia killed in Abyan within hours

ABYAN, May 13 (YPA) – A senior commander of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia in Abyan province was killed Wednesday by Islah Party militants’ fire in surrounding of Zinjbar city, the provincial capital, local sources reported.

Abdulrahman al-Shanini, staff officer of the so-called “security belt force”, was killed along with three of his escorts at the “Central” building located at the entrance of the city, the sources explained.

The sources pointed out that violent confrontations took place a short time ago between the STC militias and the Islah militants, during which the latter managed to control “Al-Tariqa” camp, which is one of the STC largest camps in Abyan.

A commander of the STC militia called “Abood al-Yafei” and 17 militiamen were killed and 42 others captured, as well as several military vehicles were destroyed during the confrontations, according to the sources.
