Islah militants kidnap female leading member of STC in Socotra

SOCOTRA, April 22 (YPA) – Gunmen affiliated with Islah Party on Wednesday kidnapped a female leading member in the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Socotra Island.

Islah’s militants in a military point kidnapped the political activist Ruommana Khamis, director of the women and child department of the STC in the district of Qalansiyah and Abdulkouri, and the activist Mohammad Abdhan, according to local sources on the island.

The sources added that the military point detained Khamis for more than an hour, before many of the people gathered in front of the point.

The kidnapping of Khamis was met with widespread discontent in Socotra society members, who considered this a dangerous precedent targeting all women.

Meanwhile, the people of Socotra, who are loyal to the STC demonstrated Wednesday, for the third consecutive day, in protest against the Islah party policy on the island.
