Islah top leader loots oil in Marib

MARIB, Oct. 16 (YPA) – Rights activists in Marib province have reported  looting of oil from the Safar sector, carried out by a private company belonging to General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and leaders of the al-Islah party ( Yemeni branch of Muslim Brotherhood), in conjunction with the exposure of similar looting from the same parties to the oil of Shabwah and Hadhramaut provinces.

On Tuesday, human rights activist Hamza Abdullah al-Muradi published information that “Petro Energy Yamen, owned by General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, transports tens of thousands of liters of gasoline a week without paying for it or taxes due.”

“The general’s company, which specializes in renting cars and heavy equipment, gets unlimited quantities of gasoline free of charge because it belongs to the Islah party, while they sell it on stations at imaginary prices, and invest that money in Istanbul, Turkey,” al-Muradi said in a Facebook post.

Al-Muradi said the company does not obtain oil derivatives in accordance with legal regulations, such as stations and other companies, and does not pay taxes on the specified value of gasoline. “When will the people of Mairb wake up and know that their wealth is being plundered by the leaders of the reform?” he asked.

Al-Islah Group, which is based in Marib province as a stronghold of its militias, has been in control of power in the province since 2015, and its oil and gas capabilities, revenues are not fully delivered to the central bank in Sanaa or Aden.

The revelation of the looting of Marib oil coincides with a similar revelation of the systematic looting of the forces of Mohsen and the militia of the Reform Group for oil in Shabwah and Hadhramaut provinces, through a smuggling pipeline that flows to cargo ships in the Arabian Sea, outside any official or legal framework representing the state and the competent authorities.
