WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (YPA) – The US government on Thursday said that Israel may be behind spying devices planted near the White House and other sites of strategic importance in Washington to eavesdrop on the US president and his advisers.
According to the US “Politico” newspaper, the FBI and other security agencies have concluded that Israel has spent the last two years planting wiretaps.
White House officials said it was not yet confirmed whether Israel had obtained any information.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office denied the accusations, saying “These allegations are untrue.”
The office added that there is a long-term commitment and directive from the Israeli government not to engage in any intelligence operations in the United States. “This directive is strictly enforced without exception.”
Earlier, CNN reported citing a report by the US Department of Homeland Security that eavesdropping devices were discovered in strategic areas of the Colombian capital.
