African Union ends suspension of Sudan’s membership
SANAA, Sept. 7 (YPA) – The African Union ends the suspension of Sudan’s membership in the bloc after a three-month freeze until a civilian government is formed after the ouster of Omar al-Bashir.
According to Reuters, the African Peace and Security Council on Friday agreed at a meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end Sudan’s suspension.
In a statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry hailed the decision of the African Peace and Security Council
The union suspended Sudan’s membership in June after crimes committed against peaceful demonstrators during the disbanding of the main sit-in in the capital Khartoum by force.
After the army, civil parties and protest groups signed a three-year power-sharing agreement in August, Sudan appointed Abdalla Hamdok as prime minister.
On Thursday, Hamdok formed the country’s first government since Bashir was ousted in April.
