SANAA, July 30 (YPA) – Yemen’s General People’s Congress (GPC) on Monday attributed the continuing crimes of the Saudi-led coalition and the UAE against civilians in Yemen to the “international silence” that it deemed as encouraging the coalition to commit more war crimes.
“The massacre in al-Thabet market and in Qutaber in Saada province is a full-fledged war crime,” an official source of the General People’s Congress said in a statement condemning the coalition’s bombing of a popular market in Saada.
“The continued international silence against the crimes committed against the Yemeni people contributes to encouraging this aggression to commit more heinous crimes,” the official source added.
The General People’s Congress (GPC) said that “the crime against the Qutaber market added to the record of the ongoing Saudi crimes in Yemen and the targeting of markets, residential neighborhoods and civilian facilities, and will not pass without punishment.”
He noted that “the Saudi regime and its allies affirm that they do not respect international norms and laws, notably international humanitarian law and human rights law, which prohibits and criminalizes the targeting of civilians. The targeting of civilians are tantamount to war crimes, and the perpetrators must be held accountable,” he said.
However, the official source of the General People’s Congress concluded his statement by emphasizing that “this crime and others will not dissuade the Yemeni people from continuing their steadfastness and resistance to the aggression and its mercenaries, whatever the sacrifices, until victory is achieved.”
