Saudi forces establish military sites in Sayhut beach of Mahra

MAHRA, July 2 (YPA) – Saudi forces stationed in Sayhut district of Mahra province, eastern Yemen, started to establish their own military posts near the main sites of fishermen on the beach, sources reported on Tuesday.

“Citizens were surprised early in the day by the presence of containers next to a military tower established by Saudi Arabia, near the populated areas, and within walking distance of the beach used by Mahra’s fishermen,” the sources said.

The Saudi-established site is about 50 meters from the official landing site of the Fishermen’s Association, which includes a snow factory, a workshop for repairing fishing boats, and the association’s office.

Citizens complained that the establishment of such sites hinder and affect the work of fishermen and the Association’s daily activity.

Local sources noted that Saudi Arabia is seeking to turn the beach into a military zone, and that would be followed by preventing the movement of citizens and fishermen, thus directly affecting their daily lives.

“Saudi forces have surrounded the commercial movement and the movement of fishermen and citizens in general in the province,” said Ahmed Balhaf, a leader in the sit-in of Mahra people.
