Emperor of Japan announces his resignation from throne

SANAA, April 30 (YPA) – Emperor Akihito announced his resignation from the throne and received an audience with the representatives of the people for the last time, Japan media reported.

On Wednesday, the inauguration ceremony of Crown Prince Naruhito, 59, the eldest son of Akihito is the new emperor of the country.

The concession of Emperor Akihito (85 years) of the throne is the first of its kind over 200 years in the Royal Family of Japan.

The emperor went on Tuesday morning to the Imperial Palace to perform a cult ritual for the goddess of the sun, the spirits of his ancestors and several other gods.

To inform the Japanese people about the imminent resignation of the throne, the emperor read a text in the old Japanese language.
