Coalition militias fire on UN team monitoring ceasefire in Hodeidah

HODEIDAH, Jan. 17 (YPA) – Saudi-led coalition militias on Thursday fired on the United Nations team in Hodeidah province, according to an official source in the team representing the national delegation within the Joint Coordination Committee for the cease-fire.

“The mercenaries fired bullets at the security staff accompanying the UN team at 11 am on Thursday, during opening the road in the 50th Street towards the May 22 Hospital in the city of Hodeidah in order to reach the place of the other team,” said the source in a press statement.

A winch driver and a number of the security personnel were wounded in the shooting, he added.

The source confirmed the shooting and sniping operations continued until 1:00 pm, hindering the entry of the UN team until 2:30 pm.

He said that this attack “is a clear evidence of the bad intentions seeking to thwart Sweden agreement and obstruct the implementation of redeployment which the other party evades.”

The source held the other part fully responsible for the attack, calling on the UN team to clarify the facts and condemn this treacherous attack, as the team directly witnessed the attack.

He indicated that this is not the first incident of its kind, explaining that “the mercenary forces attacked a group of the army forces and popular committees while opening the road for the entry of the mercenaries’ representatives on December 26, which led to the killing of two soldiers and wounding several others.”
