UK deploys special forces to Norway to monitor Russian submarines

SANAA, Sept. 30 (YPA) – British Defense secretary Gavin Williamson told the Sunday Telegraph that his country will send 800 Marines and Special Forces to Norway as part of the new Arctic strategy.

“We see that Russian submarine activity is very close to the level that it was at the cold War years and it would be right to begin to react,” Williamson said.

“If we could go back to 10 years ago, many people would think that the era of submarine activity in the far North and North Atlantic and the threat it posed has disappeared with the fall of the Berlin Wall, He Said.

He confirmed that this threat has really come back to the fore.

The new strategy aims to allow Britain to effectively monitor Russian submarine activity and ensure that the armed forces are deployed in a way that allows them to respond to any threat, the Newspaper said.

The British force is tracing Russian submarine, will use the P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft exclusively, according to the newspaper.
