Security forces affiliated with Islah loot relief convoy in Shabwah

SHABWAH, March 24 (YPA) – Islah Security forces detained a relief convoy and prevented its distribution to citizens under the pretext of banning public gatherings due to the Coronavirus pandemic, local sources said.

According to local sources, a relief convoy provided by the “Hayel Saeed Anam” group was about to distribute humanitarian aid to the poor family in the city of Ataq, before security officers intervened and stopped them.

The gathering was not licensed and it is illegal and against  the preventive measures against the pandemic, the security forces said.

Citizens denounced the measure, asserting that all public facilities and markets remained unprotected, accusing the security forces of looting the relief convoy and expecting it to be sent to Marib province.

Other sources accused Islah and other associated organizations of monopolizing  on the distribution of relief materials in Shabwah, including those provided by the United Nations, likely to be the reason for the confiscation of the this convoy.

The residents accused the Hadi’s governor of Shabwah of looting relief items in addition to the revenues of the province and harnessing them for the purposes of groups linked to the Islah party.
