NEW YORK, July 11 (YPA) – The UN rejected the US decision to impose sanctions on UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territory Francesca Albanese, describing it as “a dangerous precedent.”
Speaking at his daily press briefing on Thursday UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that the use of unilateral sanctions against Special Rapporteurs or any other UN expert or official is “unacceptable.”
He added that the imposition of sanctions on Special Rapporteurs sets a “dangerous precedent.”
Dujarric said that Guterres “respects the work of all UN Human Rights reporters.”
“Their work is extremely important. It’s an extremely important part of the Human Rights architecture,” he affirmed.
On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Albanese would be added to the US sanctions list for work which had prompted what he described as illegitimate prosecutions of Israelis at the International Criminal Court.
