HADRAMOUT, July 11 (YPA) – The UAE deployed its loyal tribes to remove a camp belonging to the “Hadramout Tribal Alliance” in the Al-Hadba region, amid armed tensions that threaten to ignite clashes and deepen divisions among the people of the province.
According to local sources, UAE military leadership based at Riyan Airport in Mukalla encouraged members of the Sibaan tribe to target a camp belonging to the Saudi-backed “Hadramout Protection” forces, recently established by the alliance.
In response, Siban tribesmen set up armed checkpoints in the Suhaymah area of Ghayl Ba Wazir district to block alliance members, who responded by deploying their own checkpoints in the same area.
The sources clarified that the region is witnessing armed tensions among the tribes, as the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), managed to penetrate tribal ranks to limit the alliance’s movements. The alliance had announced in April the so-called “self-rule” for Hadramout.
This comes after the head of the STC branch in Wadi Hadramout, Mohammed Al-Zubaidi, threatened to invade the alliance’s camps with nearly 300,000 recruits from UAE-backed STC factions.
