SHABWAH, Oct. 8 (YPA) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation troops stationed in Shabwah, southeastern Yemen, on Thursday arrested an entire battalion of so-called Shabwani elite forces on charges of “treason” and place then inside iron containers in the desert of the province.
Tribal sources said they had received information from inside the Balhaf facility, which has been besieged by al-Islah factions for days, that UAE forces had arrested members of a battalion tasked with guarding the facility from the inside after they had contacted the commander of the special forces in Hadi government, to ensure that they returned home for their annual vacation.
The special forces had earlier arrested 20 members of the Shabwani elite as they left the UAE military base.
The battalion is still being held inside the containers as a punishment, especially as temperatures rise in the coastal area of the oil province.
The Balhaf region is in a state of tension amid the escalation between the Emiratis and the Islah factions around the facility, which produces the equivalent of 4.5 billion dollar’s worth of liquefied gas a day.
