SANAA, Oct. 8 (YPA) – Jordanian King Abdullah II commissioned Dr. Bishr Hani Al-Khasawneh to form a new government, succeeding Dr. Omar Razzaz, which resigned last Saturday.
According to BERTA, the Jordanian king said, in the letter of assignment to Khasawneh: I entrust you with the presidency and formation of a new government, provided that it includes competent and distinguished leaders who are able to assume the responsibility entrusted to them by the constitution.
Al-Khasawneh was born in the year 1969, and held many political and diplomatic positions, as he represented Jordan in various Arab and international forums, and received the Jordanian Independence Medal of the first degree and the Jordanian Al-Kawkab medal.
The Jordanian king had accepted, last Saturday evening, the resignation of former Prime Minister Omar Al-Razzaz and members of his government, and assigned him to continue conducting business until the prime minister was chosen and the new government formed.
Al-Razzaz assumed the presidency of the Jordanian government after protests that toppled the government of Dr. Hani Al-Mulki, as he made pledges to bypass the amendments to the income tax law, which was soon approved by the government after the approval of the House of Representatives.
Omar Al-Razzaz continued in his position for about two years and three months, during which his government faced several challenges, most notably teachers’ protests and the Corona virus epidemic.
