Foreign Minister meets WHO Representative in Yemen

SANAA, Sep. 9 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, met on Tuesday with the Representative of the World Health Organization in Yemen (WHO), Altaf Musani.

At the meeting, the minster stressed the importance of the international organizations role and humanitarian actors to cooperate and support the health sector in Yemen.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the activities and work programs played by the WHO office in Yemen and the efforts related to combating the Covid-19 epidemic.

They discussed the joint work’s requirements and cooperation between the National Salvation Government and the WHO to overcome any difficulties facing the organization in its field work.

He pointed out that the health sector has suffered from collapse and the scarcity of medicines and medical supplies as a result of withholding the oil derivatives necessary to continue the work of health facilities, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the humanitarian laws.

Sharaf added that the destructive approach taken by the countries of aggression aimed at stopping many health projects and reducing the necessary funds by the international support program for the Yemen people.

Meanwhile, Musani emphasized the WHO’s commitment to make every effort to support the health sector in Yemen and contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens.

The UN official pointed out that the WHO would make all possible efforts to provide possible support to deal with the coming waves of the Corona epidemic, praising the cooperation that the organization received by the Health Ministry in Sanaa.
