UNITED NATIONS, July 14 (YPA) – The UN Security Council on Monday unanimously voted to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA) for an additional six and a half months.
The UK drafted the resolution on Yemen.
The aim of the mission has been to support the implementation of the Agreement concerning the city of Hodeida and the ports of Hodeida, Salif, and Ras Issa, as outlined in the Stockholm Agreement of 13 December 2018 between the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and Sanaa government.
UNMHA is tasked with leading the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) to oversee the ceasefire and the mutual redeployment of forces, as well as facilitating UN efforts to ensure humanitarian and logistical access through the port of Hodeida.
The resolution comes despite the US call to end the mission. Dorothy Shea, the acting US Permanent Representative to the Security Council, stated that the rapid developments on the ground, especially in Hodeida Governorate, have long surpassed the mission’s limited mandate and tasks.
