Sanaa Gov’t mourns former PM Abdul-Qadir Bajammal

SANAA, Sept. 8 (YPA) – The National Salvation Government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Tuesday mourned the national, political and leading figure of the former Prime Minister Abdul-Qadir Bajammal, who passed away at the age of 74.

Bajammal died on Monday in Dubai city of the UAE, after suffering from illness for 12 years due to an assassination attempt targeted him in Singapore on April 26, 2008.

After the assassination attempt, Bajammal entered into a coma due to his suffering two successive strokes in heart and brain, whose effects stayed with him.

At that time, close associates of Bajamal and his supporters at the General People’s Congress (GPC) accused the former President Ali Abdullah Saleh ‘Afash’ of standing behind the attempt to liquidate him, after calling for political and economic reforms.

The assassination attempt at the time coincided with a media campaign directed against Bajamal by the ruling party (GPC), which sought to tarnish his image and some members of his family, by accusing him of regionalism, corruption and moral issues.
