Britain hails Yemen’s initial consensus on implementation of “Hodeidah” plan

SANAA, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Britain’s Foreign Office praised the preliminary agreement between the national negotiating delegation and Riyadh-backed delegation on the implementation of the first phase of withdrawal from Hodeidah port under the auspices of the United Nations.

“The parties, in a meeting of the Coordination Committee for Redeployment headed by General Michael Lollesgaard, agreed in principle to redeploy troops as a first phase,” the Office said on its Twitter account.

The first phase of the agreement includes redeployment of forces away from the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa and Salif and away from humanitarian aid locations in Hodeidah city, according to the office.

It added that the parties seek to finalize an agreement on the second phase within two weeks. “This encouraging process represents a big step in the political process.”

The United Kingdom called upon the parties to continue to cooperate with the UN Special Envoy to expedite the implementation of the agreed plan.

British Foreign Secretary reiterated during in a meeting of Quartet on Yemen in Warsaw that the political settlement remains the only way to achieve long-term stability in Yemen and to address the worsening humanitarian crisis.
