MAHRA, Oct. 1 (YPA) – Saudi military forces on Monday moved from Ghaidha airport of Mahra province, eastern Yemen, to suppress the border tribes of Shehr, local officials told Yemen Press Agency.
The move came following the Shehr tribes removed concrete signs of Saudi oil pipeline project in the province.
Over 30 military vehicles carrying dozens of Saudi troops were seen exiting from the airport heading to the Shehr tribes’ area, and that coincided with the arrival of military armored vehicles at Nashton port of the province, the officials said.
Saudi forces have received instructions to suppress protests called for by the Organizing Committee next Friday, they added.
Sources revealed that one of sheikhs funded by Saudi Arabia refused to lead military militias formed outside the province to fight the tribesmen who prevented the Saudi engineering team from working in the Shehr area.
Mahra province is witnessing a popular uprising against Saudi projects and ambitions in the province, far from the conflict that has been taking place in the country since the outbreak of the war on Yemen in March 2015.
