Tribal clashes erupt in Shabwa after young man’s killing

SHABWA, Oct. 27 (YPA) – Tribal clashes broke out in Ataq, the capital of Yemen’s Shabwa province, between armed members of the Maraziq and Rubaiz tribes following the killing of Ammar Ali Saleh Saeed Al-Shamsi Al-Rubaizi in Najd Marqad, along the road linking Usaylan in Shabwa with Harib district of Marib province.

Local sources said tribal mediation by Al-Tawasil tribe intervened to ease tensions and secured an agreement for an eight-day truce to halt the clashes and prevent the conflict from spreading.

The clashes stemmed from tribal revenge disputes, raising fears of renewed fighting amid fragile security conditions across the province.

Residents criticized what they described as the authorities’ failure to contain tribal disputes and strengthen security in areas under Saudi influence since 2016.

They also pointed to ongoing security breakdowns despite the presence of numerous Saudi-funded brigades and armed formations.

The renewed clashes have heightened concerns over a wider escalation, underscoring the need to address the roots of tribal revenge disputes, strengthen mediation efforts and activate state institutions to protect civilians and preserve social peace.
