Unconfirmed reports of major fires at eastern province oilfields spark public concern in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Oct. 01 (YPA) – Video footage circulating on social media on Thursday purportedly showing large fires at two major oilfields in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province has drawn widespread public attention and raised questions online.

This comes amid an absence of official statements from Saudi authorities or state oil giant Saudi Aramco.

Leaked video clips showed large flames and thick black smoke rising near the Abqaiq area, which local social media posts attributed to the Ain Dar and Ghawar oilfields. Unconfirmed local reports suggested that fires continued into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Residents in the Eastern Province reportedly heard loud explosions overnight. As of Thursday, official emergency services and government agencies had not released statements regarding the cause of the reported blasts or the condition of the facilities.
