Int’l, regional efforts underway to reconcile Saudi-Emirati rift
SANAA, Sept. 29 (YPA) – Sources familiar with the matter have revealed intensive efforts led by international and regional parties, foremost among them Israeli occupation and Türkiye, to reunite the alliance and mend the deepening rift between the Saudi and Emirati regimes.
The sources clarified that the efforts followed major splits and violent internal conflict that resulted in the ousting of Emirati influence from Yemen’s occupied provinces late last year, according to the sources.
They reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, carrying a message from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urging Abu Dhabi to respond to reconciliation efforts with Riyadh. The meeting came alongside direct pressure reportedly exerted by Israeli occupation’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his recent visit to Abu Dhabi to resolve deep disagreements among the alliance’s parties.
According to the sources, Abu Dhabi has set strict conditions for accepting a settlement and reactivating joint operations rooms. These include the complete exclusion of the Islah Party (Muslim Brotherhood) and the hosting of its leadership in Türkiye, restoring strong representation for the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the Saudi-backed Aden government and Presidential Leadership Council, maintaining Tariq Saleh’s role in the political scene, and securing an announced return of Emirati forces to key strategic positions in Yemen.
As an indication of what the sources described as Riyadh’s acquiescence to these conditions amid its field predicament, the Saudi capital Riyadh is hosting a meeting today between Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman and UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed, with the aim of signing the agreement reached under Israeli auspices.
Political assessments suggest that the rush toward reconciliation is being driven by the failure of intense Saudi pressure on Ankara to participate directly in the war. The successive defeats suffered by the alliance in previous years, and by Saudi Arabia more recently, have reportedly prompted Erdogan to seek diplomatic avenues to avoid a direct confrontation with Sanaa forces.
