Female activist injured by pro-Saudi forces’ fire in Mukalla

MUKALLA, Sept. 01 (YPA) – A female activist was injured on Tuesday by gunfire from Saudi-backed forces in Mukalla city, Hadramout governorate in eastern Yemen, amid heightened armed tensions in the city.

According to an informed human rights source, activist “Sawsan Bawazir” sustained a shrapnel wound when forces loyal to Saudi Arabia opened heavy fire to disperse a Southern Transitional Council (STC) event designated as “Army Day.” Demonstrators at the event had gathered to demand an end to Saudi guardianship over Hadramout and other governorates.

The source noted that Bawazir was among several participants injured after Saudi-backed forces fired heavily into the crowd in an attempt to suppress the protest, which condemned Saudi policies regarding local oversight, public services, and economic conditions.
