Greek opposition parties reject “Achilles Shield” defense deal with Israeli occupation

ATHENS, Sept. 01 (YPA) – Left-wing opposition parties in Greece have rejected the €3 billion defense deal signed by their government with the Israeli occupation on Monday, dubbed “Achilles Shield,” to establish a multi-layered air defense system.

The Syriza party criticized the expansion of military cooperation with a government committing genocide in Gaza, arguing that the deal increases Athens’ dependence on the occupation and lacks transparency.

They questioned Greece’s ability to achieve defense independence instead of relying on a Zionist-American system.

The party also demanded the disclosure of the agreement’s technical details and clarification of its contribution to national security.

For its part, the Communist Party of Greece considered the deal part of a military expansion policy serving the agendas of Washington and NATO, warning that it will deepen tensions with Turkey and impose additional economic burdens on the Greek people.
