Greece signs $3.6 billion defense deal with Israeli occupation

ATHENS, Aug. 30 (YPA) – Greece is set to sign a $3.6 billion defense agreement with “Israel” on Monday in Tel Aviv to acquire a multi-layered air defense system aimed at enhancing Athens’ military capabilities, according to a report by “The Jerusalem Post” newspaper.

The agreement, dubbed “Achilles’ Shield” by Greece, represents the largest military export deal in Israel’s history following three years of negotiations.

Under the agreement, signed between a visiting Greek delegation and the Israeli occupation’s Ministry of Defense, Greece will procure advanced air defense systems to counter potential regional threats. The finalized contract value of $3.6 billion is slightly below initial estimates.

This contract expands upon an existing strategic partnership between the two nations, which previously included precision missile procurement, drone technology transfers, joint military exercises, and a 22-year, $1.65 billion contract to establish a flight training center. It also complements ongoing trilateral security coordination involving Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.
