SANAA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based interior ministry announced that it had dismantled an alleged sabotage cell that was involved in bombings, surveillance of targets, and providing coordinates to Saudi intelligence.
Ina statement, the ministry affirmed that the operation followed security investigations and surveillance that led to the identification and raid of the cell’s hideout.
The statement said the cell members offered armed resistance during the arrest operation, resulting in the death of one security officer and the injury of another. The confrontation also left two alleged cell members, Abdulqawi Mahdi Ali Ghanim and Saleh Ali Saleh Al-Qasri, dead, while a third suspect was arrested.
According to the statement, security personnel found explosive devices, weapons parts, and several grenades during the raid.
It clarified that the items had been prepared for use in attacks targeting the capital, Sanaa, as part of what it described as a sabotage plot directed by Saudi intelligence.
The statement added that the cell had carried out four bomb attacks at various public locations in Sanaa in recent days.
It also said the members had attempted to set up ambushes targeting army and security patrols on roads linking the capital with other governorates, activities it said threatened public safety and stability.
The ministry’s statement described the alleged activities as part of Saudi plans to target the lives and security of Yemeni citizens through criminal means.
It reaffirmed the readiness of security forces to confront such plots and take firm action against anyone seeking to endanger citizens or undermine public security and peace.
The statement also emphasized that public cooperation is essential to identifying suspicious activities and foiling criminal plots before they are carried out.
It expressed appreciation for citizens’ security awareness and reporting efforts, urging them to continue cooperating with security agencies to help strengthen safety and stability.
