TEHRAN, Oct. 15 (YPA) – The Iranian Army announced the spotting of a violating oil tanker that caught fire inside the restricted area east of the Strait of Hormuz, after it turned off its tracking systems in an attempt to cross the restricted area within the Sea of Oman.
It confirmed that the Strait is under the complete control and supervision of the Army and Revolutionary Guard naval forces. The Army’s Deputy Commander for Coordination, Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and that any passage must be coordinated.
Two days ago, the army’s navy announced that a tanker had been damaged and caught fire after its tracking systems were switched off. Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz to normal navigation since the start of the US-Israeli aggression against it on February 28, 2026, with limited passage continuing and its reopening contingent on fulfilling its conditions related to navigational security and adhering to the Memorandum of Understanding.
