Saudi-led arrangements to dismantle Islah Party factions in Marib, appoint ‘Salafi’ commanders

MARIB, Aug. 27 (YPA) – The Saudi military command in Yemen’s Marib governorate has initiated a plan to dismantle military factions loyal to the Islah Party and merge their personnel into newly formed units designated as “Emergency Teams,” preceding the appointment of alternative Salafi commanders and the exclusion of traditional party leadership.

According to informed sources, the restructuring follows a proposal submitted by Sagheer bin Aziz, Chief of Staff of the Saudi-backed government forces, aimed at ending the party’s exclusive military influence.

Concurrently with Saudi directives instructing Islah personnel to evacuate and surrender their sites, sources revealed widespread looting of arms and ammunition depots, as well as specialized vehicles, across party-affiliated camps in the Third, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Military Regions, with equipment transferred to unknown destinations prior to the completion of the merger.

These Saudi arrangements come amid preparations for a new military campaign targeting Sanaa, following airstrikes over recent weeks that struck Saudi military mobilizations, arms depots, and vehicles in Marib, Hadramout, and the western coast, resulting in hundreds of casualties.
