MARRAAKECH, Aug. 23 (YPA) – Thousands demonstrated in Morocco’s Marrakech against the visit of Israeli occupation’s Transport Minister Miri Regev and the resumption of direct flights between “Tel Aviv” and Marrakech.
The protest, organized by the Marrakech branch of the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, called for an end to normalization with Israeli occupation, particularly amid the continuing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Regev arrived in Morocco on August 19 on the first direct flight from ‘Tel Aviv’ to Marrakech in nearly three years. Her visit and the resumption of direct flights have fueled renewed debate inside Morocco over relations with Israel.
The Moroccan Front described Regev’s visit and the return of Israeli airlines to Marrakech as a new stage in normalization, arguing that closer Moroccan-Israeli ties amid the Gaza war provide the occupation with political and diplomatic legitimacy.
The protests have highlighted the growing contrast between the Moroccan government’s continued cooperation with Israel and widespread public support for Palestine and opposition to normalization.
