UN urges civilian protection, warns of humanitarian crisis in West Bank, Gaza

NEW YORK, Aug. 18 (YPA) – The United Nations has called for the protection of Palestinian civilians and their property, as well as ensuring their access to essential services, amid ongoing restrictions and violence in the occupied West Bank and Israeli occupation strikes on the Gaza Strip.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reported that UN teams successfully reached families in the northern West Bank village of Qusra following tight restrictions.

Meanwhile, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov, alongside humanitarian partners, warned that winter preparation efforts in the Gaza Strip are being hampered by funding shortages and obstacles to delivering shelter supplies. Less than 40% of the funding required for this year’s humanitarian response has been covered.
